A body of Work

Figurative ceramics appeal to me because of the intimate tactile experience of morphing another body with your hands. In this body of work, my hands manipulate the clay to mirror the internal anxiety that comes from a lifetime of masking as a survival mechanism. My artwork is full of themes and imagery relevant to my life and the evolution of my mental health. Many of my themes revolve around nature, often bugs or imagery that represents the cycle of life and death. Many of my pieces in this body of work are entwined with earth and creatures in a way that accepts the often-rejected, more animalistic side of our nature. In the future, I will continue exploring how creating is a tool for healing and perceiving our world.

The following pieces are all carved from B-Mix clay and painted with a wash of black underglaze.
